Table Soccer Association of Canada (TSAC) follows the International Table Soccer Federations’ rules and regulations regarding the plays of foosball (https://www.tablesoccer.org/page/rules).
These rules are a consolidation of several existing rule books from several countries and table manufactures from around the world. Competitions across North America and Europe follow these rules for tournament and league play.
Foosball is a self-regulating sport where players are expected to know and follow the rules of play in their local leagues and club tournaments. When infractions arise, players are to discuss the situation and follow the rules as they are applied. If a resolution is not agreed upon, a referee can be called to either provide a ruling based on the situation or could officiate the remainder of the game/match.
Club Presidents or Tournament Directors must have a copy of the ITSF rules with them and be able to apply the rules in their local tournaments and league play.
The rules can be broken down into two categories:
1)Easy to follow, clear and specific rules – for example – time limits per zone. These rules are easy to judge and follow
2)Subjective rules, which require training and experience, for example – a jar (aggressively moving the rods/table such that the opposition player loses control or possession of the ball). Calling a jar is a difficult ruling and requires experience and training to be able to consistently call this infraction correctly.
TSAC offers training programs at all our sanctioned events for referees to better apply and follow the ITSF rules at their local events. Players who travel to international tournament can apply to have any expense coffered to be trained as an official ITSF certified referee.
TSAC works with all promoters and club presidents to ensure they follow and are trained on ITSF rules.
